On the occasion of the eCAADe2010 conference, another 100 papers will be added to the domain of CAAD. But how to “access” these approx. 1,000 published pages in the proceedings quickly and to see “what’s new”?

In this workshop, we demonstrate an Ontology-Driven portal system to explore the semantics contained within the papers presented at eCAADe. The CAAD Ontology powering this portal has resulted from two knowledge extraction processes, dealing in expert generated knowledge on the one hand, and on the other, comparing the topics of CAAD, their interrelationships, their “history” and the relationships between the people who contributed in CAAD research with a formal ontology of common knowledge.

Knowledge extraction, after all, is an imprecise affair, and as we create the formal representations of what is contained within CAAD research, there arise questions of interpretation, the level of detail, the subjective judgements of programmers, the biases by which the information was chosen for conferences, and questions of privacy.

For this reason, while demonstrating the portal systems, we hope to gather responses, and get one step closer to a more rigorous technique for accessing the semantics, and of course, newer applications and use-cases for the CAAD ontology and the portal framework.

Submission information:
Applications to the workshop are invited in the form of brief abstracts (approximately 150-300 words long) formatted according to the eCAADe2010 paper guidelines (http://www.ecaade2010.ethz.ch/Conference/Submission). Contributions may include examples of the digital design chain and express interests in using the software in a particular workflow. The submitted contributions will be assessed by the workshop committee, with the view of covering the breadth and depth of the suggested topics.

Please submit your abstracts by emailing the workshop chairs by the 30th of August 2010.

Technical requirements:
Participants are required to bring their own laptops for hands-on lessons.

This workshop is open to eCAADe 2010 conference participants only.
