Existing computational urban models can generate accurate representations of the reality, but do not compute or help to visualize the impact of alternative urban regulations. CityZoom is a Decision Support Computational Environment for urban planning which not only provides CAD tools, but allow users to evaluate and to modify, according to the results of the analysis, the city model. By simulating specific urban regulations and addressing environmental comfort issues, CityZoom help architects to assess and to analyse several attributes of a particular design. Coupled with GIS tools, CityZoom allows users to perform different data analyses over the existing landscape and to use the resultant feedback to optimize the solution..

CityZoom, is a software to be used both by laymen and planners as a visualization tool to level the discussion of themes such as solar radiation, luminance, environmental comfort, plot ratio, visual obstruction and other issues constantly raised in public enquiries.

The workshop is structured into five modules

  1. Representation and modelling of urban scenarios
  2. Simulation of constructive potential and urban growth
  3. Data visualization and analysis
  4. Interface with GIS softwares
  5. Case Studies

Submission information:
Applications to the workshop are invited in the form of brief abstracts (approximately 150-300 words long) formatted according to the eCAADe2010 paper guidelines ( Contributions may include examples of the digital design chain and express interests in using the software in a particular workflow. The submitted contributions will be assessed by the workshop committee, with the view of covering the breadth and depth of the suggested topics.

Please submit your abstracts by emailing the workshop chairs by the 30th of August 2010.

Technical requirements:
Participants are required to bring their own laptops with Windows platform. Prospective attendees should be familiar with CAD tools and be actively interested in GIS and Urban Planning. Participants of this workshop will be provided an introductory user manual and the software CityZoom along with its license and test files.

This workshop is open to eCAADe 2010 conference participants only.
